TUTORIAL: Graphic 45 Let's Get Cozy Tissue Box

Hi crafty friends. It's almost time to start decorating for the winter holiday season. If you're anything like me, you love making DIY home decor pieces. Today, I have a quick and easy tutorial to show you how to decorate one of my wooden tissue box covers using the new Graphic 45 Let's Get Cozy collection. Since it is a winter-themed collection, you can use this fun piece all winter long!

Supplies Needed

  • Wooden tissue box cover

  • Graphic 45 Let's Get Cozy Patterns & Solids

  • Graphic 45 Let's Get Cozy 12x12 OR 8x8 Collection Pack

  • Graphic 45 Let's Get Cozy Ephemera Assortment

  • Graphic 45 Let's Get Cozy Flower Assortment

  • Graphic 45 Ink in Marine Blue

  • small piece of silver cardstock to mat the Ephemera piece

  • one small piece of chipboard

Tutorial

First, assemble your tissue box holder and adhere with glue. Then, paint the wood with craft paint, or leave natural if you prefer the wood edges. Next, use the Graphic 45 ink in Marine Blue to lightly distress the edges of the tissue box.

Cut four pieces of blue Patterns & Solids to 4 1/2" x 5 1/8". Ink the edges lightly. Adhere to the four sides of the tissue box.

Cut one piece of Hello Winter (from the collection pack) to 4 1/2" x 4 1/2". Place the piece on the top of the box and use Washi tape (or another temporary tape) to secure into place. Flip the box upside down and trace the outline of the hole in the box top. Remove the piece of paper. Then, use a pencil to create a line approximately 1/8" from the outer edge of the hole you traced.

Use a craft knife or scissors to cut on the outer pencil line. Once finished, place the piece on top of the tissue box to be sure the opening lines up with a uniform 1/8" border around it. Trim the paper if necessary. Ink the edges lightly. Then, adhere the paper to the top of the tissue box.

Cut two strips of Hello Winter to 1" x 7/8". Ink the edges lightly. Adhere one piece to each side of the chipboard piece on the front of the tissue box. Ink the edge of the "There's Snow Place Like Home" ephemera piece. Adhere the piece to the silver cardstock and fussy cut around the piece to create a silver mat. Then, adhere the piece to the front of the tissue box in the center.

Cut three strips of Hello Winter to 1" x 4 1/2". Ink the edges lightly. Adhere one strip to the other three sides of the tissue box. Make sure the pieces all line up around the box.

Adhere two of the die cut flowers from the Ephemera pack to the corners of the chipboard piece on the front of the tissue box. I added a small piece of foam tape to the back of the flower on the bottom of the box where the piece is hanging off the chipboard die cut piece.

Select flowers from the flower assortment pack. Layer the flowers and add the the top corner of the tissue box. Add some of the leaves to the flower cluster. Be careful that the flower and leaves are not too close to the opening so they do not tear when taking the tissues out of the box.

I hope you will try this tutorial out for yourself to create your own custom designed tissue box cover. The wooden tissue box cover is available in my shop so check it out today. There are two sizes to accommodate standard size tissues from the store.

Happy crafting!
